Consultations with my doctors

Yesterday I went to see three different doctors. When I called the different offices to see what was available, appointments kind of fell into place, interestingly.

It was tiring, but good to be able to gather all this information. These consultations were all related to the meeting I had the other day with the pain specialist from Toronto. I presented my doctors with the recommendations she offered, and they were well received. I asked one doctor (very politely) why, does she think, she didn't think of these options for me earlier? She very honestly said that sometimes when you have a new mind seeing the patient from a fresh perspective, they can see things from a different angle.

Then today I saw my family doctor and got some paperwork and prescriptions I needed to start changing meds, very very slowly. She said all the changes look reasonable, except for a doubt she has for one of them. When we get to the stage of changing that, we'll re-investigate.

One change which is not going to start for another 4- 6 weeks, is to help with my quality of life with regard to sleeping. My body demands too much sleep. I haven't been up in mornings to see the kids off to school in a long, long time, unless necessity forces me to. And, if I do get up early, I am at risk for a migraine at night, or a big drop in energy which is very hard for all of us to live with. It often means that I have to check out of family goings on by early evening. It decreases the chances of me taking on work, as well. The whole quality of life thing regarding sleep can be improved upon. My sleeping pill will change to a completely different type, which hopefully I can wean off of in time. The one I have now is impossible to wean off of unless I choose to have weeks of insomnia. Not an option.

I want to be there to braid Shifra's hair in the morning.

Other decisions have to be made, as well, and it is all for the better, with the help of Gd. I am discussing these issues with my doctors and husband, and I'm confident we will be able to reach an appropriate decision.

I am a bit apprehensive of change, of course, but if these changes help with the chronic nerve pain, migraine headaches, and sleep dysfunction I have, I've gained a lot.

just got a flyer in the mail today from a local hospital. Featured was a woman getting relief from chronic pain. To quote: "treatment options generally include epidural injections and arthritic joint injections and adanced radiorequency therapy -- which prevents specific nerve branches from transmitting pain signals -- and/or prescription pain medications"

wishing you a Purim Samayach! Please post pictures!
