I found a great mattress that isn't a zillion shekels! It is very similar feeling to the "Rolls Royce" I tried in the expensive store, but half the price. I spent close to an hour on it yesterday, and then went back today with Robert to make a final decision. He wants one, too, but taking into account the budgetary problems, and that I am the one with the problem sleeping, he didn't get one for himself. Interesting thing, though- last night Robert was doing a search on the net for the same model to see what he can find, perhaps at a better discount. I would only buy a used mattress if it was still in the plastic. So, armed with that information, he looked on "Yad 2" (means "second hand" in Hebrew) to see if there is a miracle purchase to be found. Guess what? He *found* an offer- *in the plastic*, *never used*, EXACT special size we need, but it is the medium firm of the series, and I fell in love with the soft one. Can you believe that? It was a small fraction of the price. Unbelieveable. And the size we need is unusual, not a standard size; it is a special order. And the one for sale, new, on the second hand site was *that* size.
So, we decided to go back to the mattress store and try the medium firm one again. I wanted to love it, I wanted to get the great "metzia" (bargain in Yiddish). I layed on it again, beause I had tried it out yesterday, also, before I tried the soft one. And again, it was just too hard for me. The Princess And The Pea over here. Or the Three Bears, perhaps.
I layed back on the soft one, and that was just it. What can I do? The seemingly perfect "metzia", but one step away. It made a big difference to me. So, we got a good price for it with the sales lady (who now knows my whole NF story), and ordered it. It should come in a week- 10 days. Just in time for me to relax on it after the biposy day.
In the meantime, Robert may buy the medium firm one from the "Yad 2" guy. Apparently they had a great connection on the phone, also. It works out well because our bigger boys, Dov & Ya'akov, have been sleeping on our old mattresses, from 10 years ago. Dov especially had been complaining that it isn't comfortable. We know it's not, that's why we passed them on. Ya'akov hasn't complained yet because he is lighter and doesn't feel it yet. So, if R & I both get new mattresses, the boys can inherit ours now, which are better than what they have at the moment. We had their bed platforms made for that size, also, of course. So we all have this size- 90cm X 190cm.
Anyway, probably more details than you wanted to know, but I am so excited, ....and I just can't hide it. :-) Can't wait for my new bed. With only one basic position left for me to sleep- on my back- it'll be so helpful. I *can* roll onto my good side, but then after a while I am awakened by pain from my bad hip which is at a pressured angle (even with pillows between my knees). I then painfully and slowly creek back over back onto my back, and have to fall alseep again. I really hope this will help with all the back sleeping I do!! And the hope is also to get off the sleeping pills, please Gd.
Sarah: I'm so pleased for you! I hope it makes all the difference for your sleep. I also hate my mattress, and would love to find one as comfortable as you describe. I'm so glad you can get it -- if you can get good sleep, perhaps other things will get easier too.
ReplyDeleteUnsolicited advice: get the second "metzia" mattress for Robert! I suspect you both will regret it if you don't...
ReplyDeleteSweet dreams!!
Wahoo! When's the sleepover?
