Hip joint update: I was in Ichilov hospital yesterday for my big MRA test of the right hip. The left one is the one which has been operated on so much, but we are checking into the right one now, because it is very painful. I mean, it's not since I raised the fentanyl dose (narc pain relief patches), but the fact that I had to use more means we have to check into it. It's either bi-lateral (both sides) PVNS, or FAI, which is what he operated on last January for the left one.
First the local anesthesia went RIGHT into the hip joint. Long needle, using a CT scan at the same time so the doc could see exactly where he was going. So painful. That's the thing of local anesthesia, isn't it- it hurts so much to inject, until it makes everything numb. Then after that, when the joint was numb (weird feeling, lots of pressure and weird nerve action), he shot into the joint radioactive stuff, to make everything glow when I went to the MRI. The radioactive stuff went right into the femoral artery (that is the "A" of MRA; arterial). That, in itself, was a HARD procedure, and then it was followed by a 45 minute MRI in a white tube with those jack-hammering and alien-abduction sounds (I remember from the time I was abducted).
The anesthesia wore off as I was on the train ride home. Owwwwwie.
Now for the wrist update: Feh. It is getting worse in a few ways. First, a bad thing that is going on is that it looks like I am having maybe an allergic reaction to the latex/lycra/rubbery stuff used in the splint. I have an awful rash of pus and boils on my wrist... looks like this (but worse- the picture didn't really capture the real ooginess of it):
ucky hand rash. Bad. |
It's similar on the other side of the wrist, too. So, in the meantime, I can't splint my hurtin' wrist, and it is hurting even more. It is basically useless, and the rash hurts incessantly. Wahhhh! Yes, I will go to the doctor tomorrow.
OK, I have to stop typing now.
I am just sore all over.
But- I should tell you something I accomplished today- even with the owies. I made "hunny truffles" with Azriel. He found a recipe for them in his special edition "Winnie-the-Pooh Candy Land" game (he alternates that game for tiny tots with Monopoly. Awesome). The recipe is on the back of the directions. He was dying to make it (who wouldn't be?), so I overcame my hardships because of that look on his face. I cannot refuse that look. We got all gooey and peanut-buttery-honey-ie, and it was fun.
They had to harden in the fridge for two hours, and it would be past his bedtime by then, so I told him he could have one for breakfast.
I may, too. :)
Don't know how you cope.

Can you cover your wrist with a sock or something that has the end cut off? That would protect your skin. I get oozy icky spots like that from some metals.
